Telegram to launch native Gram crypto wallet this summer

Telegram founder Pavel Durov announced on Wednesday that the app will add a built-in non-custodial Gram wallet this summer. The wallet will let users send cryptocurrency instantly and without fees to contacts across Telegram’s more than 1 billion monthly active users.

Durov described the rollout as “the largest rollout of a non-custodial crypto wallet in human history,” while Telegram has not provided a firm launch date or technical specifics.

As a non-custodial wallet, the feature will allow users to hold and control private keys on their own devices instead of storing assets with a third-party provider. Telegram has not revealed which blockchains or tokens the wallet will support, how keys will be managed, whether fiat on-ramps or off-ramps will be included, or how fee-free transfers will be funded.

Telegram reported it surpassed 1 billion monthly active users in 2025, which would give the wallet a larger potential reach than most standalone crypto applications. Built-in wallet functionality could enable peer-to-peer crypto transfers between existing contacts on the platform.

The announcement follows a rename by The Open Network, which is restoring its native token’s original name from Telegram’s 2018 white paper, changing Toncoin back to Gram. The network described the rebrand as part of a roadmap to expand crypto services and Web3 features available through the app.

Telegram halted plans for its own blockchain after a 2020 settlement with the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission and later supported the TON ecosystem through integrations and tooling. The new in-app wallet embeds a self-custody payment option directly into the messaging platform.

Telegram has not published details on security audits, recovery procedures for lost keys, or which jurisdictions will be supported at launch. In his post, Durov wrote users would be able to send cryptocurrency “instantly and without fees.”
