Zcash, XRP and Solana Leverage Surpasses Bitcoin

Leverage on ZEC, XRP and SOL rose above Bitcoin on major derivatives platforms today, with traders increasing margin use in short-duration positions.

Traders raised leverage on Zcash (ZEC), XRP and Solana (SOL) above Bitcoin levels on major centralized exchanges and derivatives venues during today’s session, exchange data showed.

Open interest and position sizes in perpetual futures and margin accounts for ZEC, XRP and SOL climbed relative to Bitcoin as traders concentrated bets on short-term price moves. The increase appeared across multiple derivatives platforms and margin desks.

The leverage surge followed sharp intraday price swings in the three altcoins. Lower liquidity in these tokens allowed traders to assemble larger leveraged exposures with smaller notional capital, and trade activity was concentrated in short-duration contracts and margin lending facilities, according to exchange metrics on position types and funding rates.

Funding rates on perpetual futures for ZEC, XRP and SOL moved more sharply intraday than Bitcoin’s, reflecting higher demand for directional leverage. Several exchanges reported higher open interest in SOL and XRP and wider intraday funding rate swings compared with BTC.

Higher leverage coincided with notable liquidations on smaller venues. Margin lenders and liquidation engines on several platforms processed elevated activity without widespread system outages, though some large forced position closures were recorded on less-liquid exchanges.

Leverage lets traders control larger positions than their cash collateral by borrowing funds or using derivatives such as perpetual futures. While Bitcoin typically holds the largest absolute open interest because of its greater market size and liquidity, altcoins can show higher leverage ratios when speculative flows focus on tokens with larger percentage volatility.

Exchange data and market participants cited differences in market depth and intraday volatility as factors behind the higher leverage on ZEC, XRP and SOL during the session.
