Ripple Wins Final OCC Approval for National Trust Bank

Ripple’s national trust bank received final OCC approval, allowing it to manage RLUSD reserves, serve as collateral trustee and provide digital asset custody.

Ripple announced Monday that the Office of the Comptroller of the Currency granted final approval for Ripple National Trust Bank, completing the institution’s U.S. chartering process. The OCC gave conditional approval for the charter in December 2025.

The federally supervised trust bank is authorized to manage reserves backing Ripple’s RLUSD stablecoin, serve as collateral trustee for RLUSD holders and hold digital assets for clients, according to Ripple.

Standard Custody & Trust Company will continue to issue RLUSD. The company is Ripple’s limited-purpose trust company and is regulated by the New York Department of Financial Services. Ripple National Trust Bank will focus on reserve management, collateral trustee services and digital asset custody.

“We’ve always said crypto and banks work better together — this is what that looks like. Real innovation, real accountability, federal oversight,” Ripple CEO Brad Garlinghouse wrote on X on Monday.

Ripple follows Circle, which received final OCC approval in July. Coinbase remains at the conditional approval stage after receiving preliminary approval in April. Crypto.com and Stripe-owned payments company Bridge received conditional approvals in February.

A national trust bank is a federally chartered institution that holds and manages assets for clients. Unlike a commercial bank, it generally does not accept deposits or issue loans and does not have insurance from the Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation, according to the OCC.
