Zcash Rises 12% After Developers Set NU7 Activation Block
Zcash rose 12% in 24 hours after developers set block 3,543,405 for the NU7 mainnet upgrade, with activation expected around Nov. 5.
Zcash was trading near $1,270 on Wednesday, according to CoinGecko data. The privacy-focused cryptocurrency has gained more than 148% since the start of 2026.
Zcash developer Sean Bowe posted the proposed activation height on GitHub on Tuesday. The Zakura NU7 dashboard also lists block 3,543,405 as the planned mainnet activation point.
“Height agreed at ZIP editor meeting,” Bowe wrote. The upgrade specifications still need to be finalized before the proposal can be merged. Two developers have approved the changes.
NU7 is designed to reduce Zcash’s target block time from 75 seconds to 25 seconds. Shorter intervals would allow transactions to receive confirmations sooner. The upgrade has been undergoing testing since early October.
The Zcash Foundation’s NU7 readiness tracker lists six of 12 tasks as complete. The remaining work includes resolving synchronization issues with Zebra nodes and preparing the mainnet. Developers have not confirmed whether those issues could affect the planned activation date.
Zcash uses zero-knowledge proofs, which allow transactions to be verified without revealing some transaction details.
