Uphold Lets Crypto Holders Buy 4,000+ U.S. Stocks, ETFs
Eligible U.S. customers can sell supported crypto and buy more than 4,000 U.S. stocks and ETFs, including Apple and SpaceX, in a single in-app transaction.
Uphold began letting eligible U.S. customers sell supported cryptocurrencies and buy more than 4,000 U.S. stocks and exchange-traded funds in a single in-app transaction on July 21, 2026. The feature is available on Uphold’s mobile and web platforms and the company cited Apple and SpaceX as examples of available securities.
The app presents the process as one step. Behind the interface, Uphold first converts the selected cryptocurrency into U.S. dollars and then uses those dollars to place the stock or ETF order, so the transaction is not a direct crypto-for-stock exchange.
Fractional shares are supported where available, with minimum investments starting at $5. Cash-funded stock and ETF orders are commission-free, according to the company. Purchases funded with cryptocurrency may incur a digital-asset conversion fee that reduces the amount used to buy securities. Additional securities, regulatory or transaction fees may apply.
Uphold intends to extend trading hours to nearly 24 hours a day, including premarket, after-hours and overnight sessions, but it has not announced a start date for extended sessions. Extended hours would allow orders to be placed outside the regular U.S. market session.
Other crypto platforms have added U.S. stock trading in recent months, offering customers the ability to hold and trade digital assets and traditional securities in a single account.
Nancy Beaton, president of Uphold U.S., commented, “People want one app for all of their investing — crypto included.” She added that customers can sell bitcoin and buy shares within the same app without moving funds between separate accounts.
The feature allows crypto holders to convert digital assets into equities without leaving the Uphold app and joins a trend of firms combining crypto services with brokerage-style securities trading.
