Unicoin sues Uniswap Labs to cancel UNI trademark

TransparentBusiness Inc., doing business as Unicoin, filed a lawsuit Tuesday in the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of New York against Universal Navigation Inc., doing business as Uniswap Labs. The complaint asks the court to declare that Unicoin’s UNICOIN mark does not infringe or dilute Uniswap’s claimed UNI, UNISWAP and UNICHAIN marks and seeks cancellation of the U.S. trademark registration for UNI.

The complaint states Uniswap’s counsel sent three demand letters to Unicoin on June 3, July 17 and Aug. 14 alleging trademark infringement, dilution, cybersquatting and unfair competition. The letters demanded Unicoin stop using UNICOIN and other “UNI‑formative” marks, transfer the unicoin.com and unicoin.org domains, provide an accounting of revenue and profits and reimburse Uniswap’s legal fees.

The filing seeks a declaration that the unicoin.com and unicoin.org domains do not violate the federal Anti‑Cybersquatting Consumer Protection Act and asks the court to reject Uniswap’s claims of cybersquatting, dilution and unfair competition.

The complaint was filed weeks before the Sept. 28 public launch date Unicoin lists on its website for the UNCN token. It asks the court for declaratory relief clearing Unicoin to use its name and domains and for cancellation of the registered UNI mark in the United States.

The filing notes that Uniswap’s protocol ranked first among decentralized exchanges by 24‑hour trading volume, reporting more than $3.9 billion at the time referenced.

The case is pending in the Southern District of New York. The complaint identifies the parties by their corporate names and sets out the factual and legal bases for Unicoin’s request for declaratory relief and cancellation of Uniswap’s trademark registration.
