Coinbase: Amplitude Incident Exposed Customer Data

An incident at analytics provider Amplitude exposed contact information for a small subset of Coinbase customers, while the exchange found no evidence its systems were accessed.

An incident at analytics provider Amplitude exposed contact information belonging to a small subset of Coinbase customers, Coinbase Support wrote on X on Wednesday. The incident also affected users of other companies that use Amplitude.

Coinbase did not disclose how many of its customers were affected. It found no evidence that its own systems were accessed without authorization and said customer funds were not affected.

The exchange described the exposed information as contact data but did not provide details about the specific records involved. Coinbase denied that the incident resulted from a breach of its systems.

The disclosure came as other financial companies reported security incidents. South Korean crypto exchange Bithumb is investigating whether a breach of its internal work platform exposed customer information. South Korean brokerage Daishin Securities reported that personal and credit information belonging to 38,490 customers had been leaked.

Coinbase disclosed a separate data breach in May 2025 that affected fewer than 1% of its monthly transacting users. The exchange estimated that reimbursement and remediation costs related to that incident could reach $400 million.
