Cardano Founder: ‘She Should Be Dead’ During Clancy Trial

Charles Hoskinson recorded a video in which he stated “she should be dead” about Lindsay Clancy while jurors were still deliberating in her murder trial. Three days later, Judge William Sullivan declared a mistrial after the jury reported an 11-to-1 split following seven days of deliberation.

Lindsay Clancy, 36, has acknowledged strangling her three children at her home in Duxbury, Massachusetts, in 2023, including an eight-month-old. Her defense did not contest the killings and argued that postpartum psychosis, a rare and severe condition that can follow childbirth, left her not criminally responsible.

The mistrial was declared on September 4 after jurors failed to reach a unanimous verdict. The court did not disclose whether the majority favored conviction or acquittal; defense attorneys say a single holdout juror prevented an acquittal. Clancy is scheduled to return to court on September 29. Plymouth County District Attorney Timothy Cruz has not announced whether prosecutors will seek a retrial.

Hoskinson’s recording contained no discussion of cryptocurrency or token prices. In the clip he invited viewers to change his view and later stated that no one had persuaded him. He also suggested the children’s father was being blamed; Patrick Clancy has publicly asked for forgiveness for his wife.

The case drew sustained national attention and widespread discussion on social media. The defense’s use of postpartum psychosis as the basis for an insanity or not-criminally-responsible plea prompted debate about the boundary between criminal responsibility and severe mental illness.
