b14g Probes Exploit After 97M CORE Withdrawn

Attackers withdrew about 97 million CORE tokens from b14g staking contracts on Saturday, Oct. 31. The platform paused affected contracts and is working to recover the assets.

b14g is investigating an exploit in which attackers withdrew about 97 million CORE tokens from its staking contracts at 09:29 UTC on Saturday, Oct. 31. The platform paused the affected contracts and is coordinating with Core DAO, security firms and cryptocurrency exchanges to trace and recover the assets.

b14g has identified two addresses controlled by the attackers. About 68 million CORE remained on the Core network after the incident, while exchange partners froze roughly 9 million tokens linked to the attackers.

The platform has not disclosed the technical cause of the exploit or the full extent of user losses. It has also not explained where the remaining tokens are located or how much of the stolen CORE users may recover.

Bitcoin deposited through b14g was not affected, according to the platform. Those assets remained time-locked on the Bitcoin network, limiting the reported impact to CORE tokens staked through b14g’s contracts.

Core DAO reported that its network, validators and staking contracts continued to operate normally after the incident. CORE staked directly with validators or through other protocols was also unaffected, according to the network.

b14g plans to publish a post-mortem on the exploit and its recovery efforts. The platform has not provided a timeline for the report or confirmed whether all affected staking contracts remain paused.
