Zcash Surges 47% as Bitcoin Cash and Cardano Rally
Zcash jumped 47.1% to an intraday high near $836 on Aug. 22, leading gains as Bitcoin Cash rose 31.4% to $299.49 and Cardano climbed 19% to $0.2563.
Zcash led a broad altcoin rally on Aug. 22, jumping 47.1% to an intraday high near $836 before retreating toward the $810 area. Bitcoin Cash rose 31.4% to $299.49 and Cardano advanced 19% to $0.2563. Several other tokens posted double-digit gains during the session.
Dogecoin and the WhiteBIT token each gained about 17.7%, Stellar rose 16.2%, Chainlink added 13.3%, and Hyperliquid increased 11.9% to $81.50. Ethereum breached $2,000 and peaked near $2,112 following a U.S. Treasury announcement earlier in the day.
Market participants linked the rally to two regulatory and policy developments: Grayscale has sought approval to convert its Zcash Trust into a spot exchange-traded fund in the United States, and there was renewed political support for the Digital Asset Market Clarity Act. A U.S. Treasury statement expanding long-dated bond buybacks was also cited; that announcement coincided with lower yields and higher liquidity for risk assets.
Trading volumes rose across the board during the price moves, which market observers say points to active order flow rather than thin weekend liquidity. Analysts cautioned that rapid, broad-based rallies often occur alongside elevated leverage in derivatives markets, which can magnify both upside and downside moves.
Zcash has shown recent volatility. The token touched about $686 in prior sessions before a wave of coordinated selling generated roughly $28 million in liquidations. Hyperliquid’s advance reflected increased interest in its perpetual futures volume and its token buyback mechanism, along with attention after a presidential mention at a recent White House crypto meeting.
Zcash’s market capitalization grew as the token attracted investor interest. Market participants said they will monitor progress on crypto market-structure legislation in Congress for potential impact on the recent momentum.
