Top 40 XRP Wallets Show 55.84B, 32.44B Locked in Escrow
Top 40 XRP addresses list 55.84 billion XRP, but 32.44 billion is locked in escrow, leaving about 20.84 billion in direct, immediately available balances.
On-chain data shows the top 40 XRP addresses display 55.839 billion XRP in total, while 32.445 billion XRP is currently locked in time-based escrow contracts. Excluding escrow allocations, the combined direct balances of those 40 addresses equal about 20.839 billion XRP.
The ledger records a maximum supply of 100 billion XRP, a circulating supply of 67,526,283,516 XRP, 32.445 billion in escrow, and 14.364 million XRP permanently removed through transaction fees. The 55.839 billion figure across the top 40 equals roughly 55.85% of the total supply; the 20.839 billion of direct balances equals about 30.9% of circulating supply.
The six highest-ranked entries are Ripple-labeled accounts that each show about 5 billion XRP assigned to escrow and only a few hundred XRP in direct balance. Those six entries account for roughly 30 billion XRP of the escrow allocations displayed in the top 40.
The largest non-escrow balance in the top 40 is the South Korean exchange Bithumb with about 1.841 billion XRP. An unlabeled address holds about 1.801 billion XRP, and Binance appears with approximately 1.669 billion XRP. A Ripple-controlled account in tenth place shows slightly more than 500 million XRP in direct balance plus 1 billion in escrow.
Ranks 11 through 20 include a mix of Ripple custody addresses and exchange wallets. An additional Ripple-controlled account at 11th holds just over 500 million XRP in direct balance and 1 billion in escrow. Uphold holds about 1.485 billion XRP, Upbit appears with 1.424 billion in one wallet, and other positions include Ripple-managed accounts carrying about 1.33 billion and 816.421 million XRP. Bitbank and Coincheck hold roughly 577.779 million and 555.541 million XRP, respectively.
Positions 21 through 30 show multiple 500 million escrow allocations tied to Ripple accounts and a block of Upbit-controlled wallets. Upbit holds seven addresses in that range with balances between 500,000,022 and 500,000,112 XRP each, totaling just over 3.5 billion XRP. Across the full top 40, Upbit appears 11 times with a combined 6.424 billion XRP. When Bithumb, Binance, Uphold, bitbank, Coincheck and eToro are included, labeled exchanges and trading platforms account for about 13.033 billion XRP in direct balances, roughly 19.3% of the reported circulating supply.
Ranks 31 to 40 include additional Upbit wallets, four addresses labeled to Ripple co-founder Chris Larsen that together contain about 1.95 billion XRP, and several unlabeled accounts. Two unlabeled wallets in that range hold about 470.179 million and 438.374 million XRP. Combined with the large unlabeled address in the top 10, those three unidentified accounts represent approximately 2.71 billion XRP.
Escrowed XRP is subject to scheduled releases under Ripple’s time-based escrow contracts. Ripple originally placed 55 billion XRP into escrows with monthly release schedules; unused portions have been returned to new escrows at times. The current distribution panel shows 32.445 billion XRP still locked in escrow.
On-chain addresses can represent pooled customer assets, corporate treasuries, escrow allocations or individual holders. Observable on-chain activity that alters available supply includes large withdrawals from cold storage, sustained deposits into operational exchange wallets, changes in escrow allocations and movement from previously dormant unlabeled accounts.
