Tim Draper Denies 1,000 BTC Transfer, Reiterates $250K Target
Tim Draper denied moving his Bitcoin after a wallet possibly linked to him moved 1,000 BTC to Coinbase Prime and restated a $250,000 price target within a year.
Investor Tim Draper denied moving any of his Bitcoin after blockchain analysts connected a wallet possibly linked to him to a 1,000 BTC transfer to Coinbase Prime. Draper reiterated his forecast that Bitcoin will reach $250,000 within one year and added, “Haven’t touched my BTC.”
Blockchain analytics account Lookonchain reported the transfer and cited attribution data from analytics provider Arkham, which flagged the address as “Tim Draper?” using an AI-based entity prediction feature. Arkham’s tool assigns lower-confidence attributions to suggest potential owners rather than definitive proof. Arkham did not respond to a request for comment.
The wallet’s public transaction history shows repeated interactions with Coinbase Prime over the past year. Among those, a 1,000 BTC movement involving Coinbase Prime on July 9, 2025 occurred when Bitcoin was trading around $115,880 per coin. At the time of reporting, the on-chain transfer was worth roughly $62 million, based on market prices near $62,530.
Draper first became a prominent Bitcoin holder after purchasing nearly 30,000 BTC in 2014 through a U.S. Marshals Service auction of seized Silk Road-related coins. He paid about $18.7 million for that lot, a cost per coin of roughly $632. The current market value of that holding is in the billions.
Draper has maintained the $250,000 price target since at least 2018, when he initially projected Bitcoin would reach that level by late 2022 or early 2023. Those timelines have not been met; Bitcoin’s record high is $126,080 on Oct. 6, 2025, while shorter-term market forecasts place likely 2026 prices in the $65,000 to $70,000 range.
Analysts use transaction history, exchange flows and predictive models to propose links between wallets and real-world owners. Such attributions are probabilistic: repeated exchange interactions and on-chain clues can suggest a connection but do not independently confirm ownership.
Market participants continue to offer a range of price estimates for Bitcoin. Some industry figures project much higher valuations tied to increased institutional adoption, while others argue the asset could decline. The provenance of the 1,000 BTC transfer remains unverified in public records following Draper’s denial.
