Sui mainnet stalls again, fix rolling out to validators

Sui mainnet stalled Thursday, pausing transactions for more than five hours; engineers identified the cause and a fix is rolling out to validators after a similar January outage.

Sui Mainnet experienced a network stall on Thursday that paused transactions for more than five hours as engineers worked to find and apply a remedy. Later in the afternoon the project reported a fix was being rolled out to validators.

The project posted on X at about 10:30 a.m. ET: “Sui Mainnet is currently experiencing a network stall. Be aware that transactions may be paused at this time.” The Sui status page updated at 3:40 p.m. ET noting a “fix is rolling out to validators.”

Engineers reported they identified the issue shortly after beginning their investigation. Validators applied a patch while the team monitored consensus and transaction processing to confirm that normal operation had resumed.

The incident follows a January outage that left the mainnet offline for about six hours and a separate validator problem in 2024 that prevented transactions from processing.

During the stall, the SUI token fell about 5.4% over the prior 24 hours to trade near $0.92, a decline larger than those of Bitcoin and Ethereum in the same period. SUI reached an all-time high of $5.35 in January 2025 and is down more than 82% from that peak.

Sui launched in 2023 and was developed by Mysten Labs, a spinoff from Meta’s Diem project. Mysten Labs raised $300 million in a 2022 Series B that valued the company at $2 billion. Earlier this year, the first SUI exchange-traded funds from Canary and Grayscale began trading, providing regulated exposure to the token and access to staking rewards.

A full technical postmortem has not been posted. For now validators continue to apply the announced fix and the project is maintaining public updates on the network status page and social channels as recovery progresses.
