SpaceX secures Nasdaq-100 spot weeks after record IPO

SpaceX will join the Nasdaq-100 on July 7, 2026, weeks after its June 12 IPO that priced shares at $135 and valued the company at $1.77 trillion.

Nasdaq announced on June 26 that Space Exploration Technologies Corporation (Nasdaq: SPCX) will become a component of the Nasdaq-100 prior to market open on Tuesday, July 7, 2026. The addition follows SpaceX’s June 12 initial public offering, the largest IPO in U.S. history by initial valuation.

SpaceX priced its IPO shares at $135. The stock opened at $150 on June 12 and closed that first day at $160.95, valuing the company at roughly $2.1 trillion. During the first week of trading SPCX reached an intraday high above $225 and was trading near $153.23 on June 26.

FTSE Russell will add SpaceX to its Russell U.S. equity indexes as part of its semi‑annual reconstitution, with the change taking effect after the close on the relevant Friday. Passive funds that track Russell benchmarks, including the iShares Russell 1000 ETF (IWB), will be required to add SPCX shares when the updated index lineup becomes effective.

The Nasdaq-100 measures the performance of 100 of the largest non-financial companies listed on Nasdaq. Nasdaq noted the index is tracked by more than 200 investment products with over $800 billion in assets under management. Index-tracking funds generally rebalance portfolios to include newly added constituents, which requires purchases of the new stock.

SpaceX entered public markets after years as a privately held company. Its business lines include reusable rocket development, satellite launches and the Starlink broadband network, operations cited in filings ahead of the IPO. The company now trades on Nasdaq under the ticker SPCX and will be incorporated into both the Nasdaq-100 and FTSE Russell U.S. index set as scheduled.
