SpaceX IPO Brings 18,712 BTC to Public Markets
SpaceX disclosed in an SEC Form S-1 amendment that it holds 18,712 BTC on its balance sheet as it completed its IPO, with a fair value of $1.293 billion as of March 31, 2026.
Space Exploration Technologies Corp. disclosed in an amended Form S-1 filed June 3, 2026, that it holds 18,712 units of bitcoin on its balance sheet. The disclosure came as the company completed an initial public offering that valued SpaceX at $2.1 trillion, the largest IPO on record.
The filing shows a cost basis of $661 million for the bitcoin position. It reported a fair value of $1,293 million as of March 31, 2026 and $1,637 million as of December 31, 2025.
The filing notes that accounting rules updated in 2024 changed how the company reports digital assets. An adjustment recorded on the balance sheet increased reported digital assets by $496 million and reduced the accumulated deficit by the same amount.
The Form S-1 amendment states SpaceX owns and controls its digital assets and uses third-party custodians to hold the bitcoin. The document indicates the company expects to continue that custody arrangement.
Elon Musk reached a net worth milestone after the listing and became the world’s first trillionaire. Tesla holds 11,509 BTC on its balance sheet. Combined, SpaceX and Tesla account for 30,221 BTC.
Data compiled by Bitcointreasuries.net ranks SpaceX eighth among public-company bitcoin holders with 18,712 BTC, placing it ahead of Coinbase Global and Riot Platforms. Tesla appears 12th with 11,509 BTC. The public-company list is led by Strategy, which holds 845,256 BTC.
Industry figures commented on the disclosure on social media. Jeff Park, partner and portfolio manager at ParaFi Capital and an advisor at Bitwise, wrote: “As we celebrate SpaceX IPO today, it’s worth remembering that SpaceX has ~20K BTC on its balance sheet with the lowest average cost basis of $35K, representing one of the most visionary corporate treasuries in America. Two moonshots, one balance sheet.” Strategy Executive Chairman Michael Saylor wrote that after the SPCX listing “25% of the ‘Mag8’ now holds bitcoin on the balance sheet.”
The SEC amendment made SpaceX’s bitcoin holdings part of the public record as shares began trading, adding a sizable digital-asset position to the balance-sheet disclosures available to investors and analysts.
