Scottie Pippen Brings 1991 Championship Ball to Fortnite

Scottie Pippen launched DON’T DROP THE BALL, a competitive Fortnite experience built around the original 1991 Game 5 championship ball. The experience places players on a stylized 1991 Inglewood-inspired map where they race to an arena, fight for possession of the Game 5 ball and try to hold it longest during 10-minute matches.

Gameplay combines capture-the-flag and bounty-chase elements. Players can run, hide, attack, escape and defend while a lobby hunts the ball carrier. Matches are organized in short windows so players cycle in and out quickly.

DON’T DROP THE BALL is the flagship release for Season One, an early community launch that will emphasize creator participation, recurring tournament windows, community games and select partner activations before a wider public release.

$BALL is the digital sports brand at the center of the project. The BALL Foundation said it will represent the physical 1991 ball with a tokenized real-world asset and build related products including a mobile and web game called Meme Ball, an AI “trash-talking” basketball agent, media content and live events.

Bitcoin and Satoshi Nakamoto references appear in the game world through environmental storytelling and “Be Like Satoshi” nods. Pippen has associated publicly with Bitcoin and Web3 concepts, and the project is positioned as a meeting point for sports fans, gamers and Bitcoin enthusiasts.

Pippen said, “Putting it into a competitive Fortnite experience lets them feel the chase, the pressure, and the energy around that ball. That moment will always live in sports history, but now we’re bringing it into a new world. That’s the kind of innovation I think Satoshi would respect.”

Fortnite serves as the initial release platform. The experience was created with Epic Games’ development tools and is independently produced; it is not sponsored, endorsed or administered by Epic Games.

Season One will focus on early access, creator-led content and community tournament play while the foundation develops the surrounding $BALL offerings and tokenized real-world asset plans. The foundation plans recurring tournaments, creator-led livestreams and opportunities for brands and content creators to sponsor zones and events tied to the Game 5 ball.
