Schwartz previews XRP use cases ahead of Swell 2026

Ripple CTO emeritus David Schwartz outlined payments, tokenization, DeFi, interoperability and AI uses for XRP in a June 17 post ahead of Swell 2026.

David Schwartz, Ripple’s chief technology officer emeritus, outlined practical uses for XRP in a June 17 post on X ahead of Swell 2026 in New York City. He highlighted payments, tokenization, decentralized finance, interoperability and artificial intelligence, and invited developers and businesses to show live applications built on the XRP Ledger.

Ripple expects Swell 2026 to host more than 1,500 attendees, over 75 speakers and more than 50 sessions across three stages. The confirmed speakers list includes Ripple CEO Brad Garlinghouse, President Monica Long, actor and Water.org co-founder Matt Damon, Bullish CEO Tom Farley, Tradeweb CEO Billy Hult and Schwartz.

Schwartz emphasized payments and treasury use cases. Ripple markets XRP’s typical settlement time of three to five seconds, low transaction fees and more than four billion completed XRP transactions. The company’s enterprise treasury tools allow organizations to hold, manage and transact in XRP and the stablecoin RLUSD within existing finance workflows, with real-time valuation, transaction records and audit trails.

Ripple has tied those product features to custody and liquidity services. Garlinghouse has described using XRP together with custody and liquidity solutions and outlined work that applies artificial intelligence to cash forecasting and real-time liquidity management for finance teams.

Independent developers and firms have reported using XRP for treasury and cross-chain activity. Panos Mekras, co-founder and CEO of Anodos Finance, said his company bought, held and paid employees with XRP since 2023 while operating on the XRP Ledger, Solana and Flare. Alexis Sirkia, chairman of Yellow Network, pointed to increased XRP activity in payments, tokenization, liquidity provision and settlement by institutions and developers.

Schwartz framed Swell around applied implementations, including corporate treasury workflows, liquidity provisioning, tokenized assets and DeFi primitives that use cross-chain interoperability. He asked builders to bring projects and ideas to the event.

In his post on X, Schwartz wrote: “The best part of these events is always seeing the new ways people are using XRP and building on the XRP Ledger. Looking forward to diving into core use cases around payments, tokenization, interoperability, DeFi, AI, and whatever comes next. Bring your best ideas and meet me there, XRP community.” He added: “I hear this will be the largest Ripple Swell yet. I wouldn’t miss it.”
