NBKR and CertiK partner on digital asset security

The National Bank of the Kyrgyz Republic and CertiK have signed a long-term partnership for smart-contract audits, continuous monitoring and staff training to strengthen oversight.

The National Bank of the Kyrgyz Republic (NBKR) and blockchain security firm CertiK have signed a long-term strategic partnership to strengthen digital asset security and regulatory oversight in the Kyrgyz Republic. The agreement makes CertiK responsible for technical audits, continuous monitoring and capacity-building support as the central bank expands supervision of digital assets and related infrastructure.

Under the agreement CertiK will perform smart-contract audits, run vulnerability assessments of distributed ledgers and crypto platforms, and provide real-time threat monitoring for systems under NBKR’s supervision. The services include formal verification checks and automated monitoring tools that flag runtime anomalies and suspicious on-chain activity.

The collaboration covers training programs for NBKR staff on blockchain security practices and incident response procedures, plus advisory support to help shape regulatory frameworks for exchanges, custody services and tokenized assets. CertiK will run workshops and tabletop exercises to help staff interpret audit results, trace on-chain transactions and coordinate cross-border inquiries when incidents involve foreign platforms or wallets.

The work will begin with an initial assessment of the central bank’s current oversight perimeter and security posture, followed by targeted audits of entities and systems designated by NBKR. After the audit phase, CertiK will implement continuous monitoring services and deliver regular reports to the bank, with options to expand the scope to public-sector payment systems and any pilot projects involving tokenized instruments.

Bank officials expect the technical assistance to address gaps in engineering expertise that can affect supervision of decentralized finance applications and other emerging crypto services. The partners will run periodic joint reviews to determine whether additional tools or specialist teams are needed as threats change.

The agreement sets out confidentiality and data-sharing rules for sensitive audit findings and incident details, and it defines escalation channels for serious vulnerabilities that require immediate remediation by a platform operator or emergency supervisory action by NBKR. The contract does not authorize the central bank to take direct control of private-sector platforms; audit results and monitoring signals will inform supervisory decisions, licensing criteria and potential enforcement actions under existing law.

The partnership aligns with a wider trend of central banks and regulators engaging private-sector security firms to assess smart-contract code and on-chain risks. CertiK, founded in 2018, provides security audits and automated monitoring for blockchain projects. NBKR is the state authority responsible for monetary policy and financial stability in the Kyrgyz Republic and has been updating its regulatory approach to new payment technologies.
