Musk’s net worth climbs to $1.3T as SpaceX nears $3T

Elon Musk’s net worth increased to about $1.3 trillion after SpaceX shares rose roughly 20% on their second trading day, following the company’s initial public offering that priced at $135 per share and raised about $75 billion. The stock debuted on the Nasdaq under the ticker SPCX and closed its first day with a market value near $2.1 trillion.
On the second trading day, shares climbed as high as $229.40, briefly implying a market capitalization above $3 trillion before settling near $2.52 trillion at the close. That intraday price swing increased Musk’s reported wealth by about $165 billion in a single day.
The offering was reported to be about four times oversubscribed, with roughly $350 billion in demand against the planned raise. Institutional investors moved into the stock quickly; ARK Invest purchased nearly 3.3 million SpaceX shares across three exchange-traded funds, citing exposure to Starlink broadband, rocket reusability and planned AI-linked infrastructure.
SpaceX holds 18,712 bitcoin in its treasury. Combined with Tesla’s 11,509 bitcoin, companies linked to Musk control more than 30,000 BTC. Market participants had expected SpaceX to rank among large public bitcoin holders once it listed.
Some analysts say the current valuation exceeds the company’s present revenue mix and compare its profile to early-stage tech firms focused on future services. They cautioned that prices could retreat after the initial post-IPO momentum fades or when shares held by insiders become eligible for sale. Traders pointed to strong fear-of-missing-out among early buyers and noted comparisons showing an investor who bought SPCX at the debut would have already outperformed five years of holding ether.
Investor Anthony Pompliano wrote on X: “SpaceX hit $3 trillion market cap today. This means Elon Musk made more money in the last 24 hours than Warren Buffett made in his entire lifetime.”
SpaceX’s listing has placed the company among the largest U.S. firms by market value and redirected substantial institutional capital toward its growth plans. The coming weeks will test whether the stock sustains its valuation as short-term trading activity gives way to longer-term investor assessment and potential insider share sales.
