MoonPay launches MoonAgents app to link Claude, Codex to wallets

MoonPay’s MoonAgents desktop app connects Claude and OpenAI’s Codex to encrypted local crypto wallets to let AI assistants run swaps, payments and other on-chain actions.

MoonPay launched MoonAgents on Wednesday, a desktop application that links Anthropic’s Claude and OpenAI’s Codex to locally encrypted crypto wallets. The app lets AI assistants perform token swaps, payments and other blockchain operations through a graphical interface.

The desktop release moves capabilities first offered in February as a command-line tool into a user-friendly front end that handles model setup and wallet integration. Users can sign in with existing Claude or Codex accounts and run the language models on their own machines. MoonAgents includes prebuilt Skills, scheduled Automations and an Artifacts system that can generate dashboards and interfaces to manage financial activity.

Private keys remain on the user’s computer in encrypted form while the app grants AI assistants access to blockchain services without exposing keys to the models. MoonPay’s Head of Agents, Kevin Arifin, said the keys are stored locally and encrypted so the large language model cannot view them.

Security concerns have increased after incidents in which autonomous agents made destructive API calls and researchers warned about prompt-injection techniques that can cause agents to leak data or perform unintended actions. MoonPay’s local key storage is intended to reduce the risk that a model could directly exfiltrate private keys or sign transactions without user oversight.

MoonAgents supports token swaps, payments and other on-chain actions through visual tools and automation. The company positions the app as a way for users who do not write scripts to research tokens, manage trades and automate routine blockchain tasks while retaining control of credentials.

In May MoonPay released a ChatGPT app that generates checkout links to buy Bitcoin, XRP, Solana and USDC within the chatbot. Arifin added that MoonAgents is designed to let models run locally and interact with blockchain services using the owner’s keys while keeping credentials private.
