MoonPay launches ChatGPT app to buy Bitcoin, XRP, Solana, USDC

MoonPay on Friday launched a ChatGPT app that generates checkout links inside OpenAI’s chatbot for purchases of Bitcoin, XRP, Solana and USDC. Users who follow the link complete identity verification and payment on MoonPay’s website.

Inside ChatGPT, a user can ask about a cryptocurrency and request a specific purchase amount. The chatbot creates a MoonPay checkout link that redirects the user to MoonPay’s site to finish Know-Your-Customer checks, link a wallet and complete payment. Customers who already completed KYC with MoonPay can sign in and use saved payment methods and delivery addresses.

Kevin Arifin, MoonPay blockchain engineer and product lead, described a growing pattern of shopping and financial research inside conversational AI. “We’ve seen this with commerce and AI, where a lot of people get shopping recommendations within ChatGPT,” he said.

Arifin framed the app as a way to pair conversational research with a direct on-ramp into crypto purchases. “It’s like a broker that sits by you, not making financial recommendations, but educating you about the asset you’re buying,” he added.

The app hands the checkout and compliance steps to MoonPay rather than processing payments inside OpenAI’s interface. MoonPay retains anti-money-laundering checks and identity verification, and the company expects the flow to shorten purchase steps for returning customers while keeping regulatory controls on its platform.

MoonPay’s ChatGPT app appears alongside other crypto-related apps in the ChatGPT App Store that provide price data and blockchain queries. The MoonPay tool differs by initiating a purchase workflow that routes users to MoonPay’s compliance and payment systems.

Earlier this month MoonPay acquired Dawn Labs and launched Dawn CLI, a product that converts plain-English prompts into automated trading strategies. The company also introduced the MoonAgents Card, a virtual Mastercard intended to let AI agents spend stablecoins at online merchants.

The ChatGPT app supports purchases of Bitcoin, XRP, Solana and the stablecoin USDC. MoonPay said the integration is meant to combine conversational assistance with its existing checkout process while enforcing required KYC procedures.
