Metaplanet to buy Siiibo for $13M, offer BTC yield in Japan
Metaplanet will buy Tokyo-based Siiibo Securities for $13 million to use its Type I license and back bitcoin-linked yield products with 40,177 BTC; closing expected July–August 2026.
Metaplanet agreed to acquire Tokyo-based Siiibo Securities for $13 million, purchasing common and preferred shares in a deal that values Siiibo at ¥2.1 billion. Completion procedures are planned for August 2026, and Metaplanet has indicated a likely closing in July. After the transaction Siiibo will be renamed Metaplanet Securities and become a wholly owned subsidiary.
Siiibo is registered under Japan’s Financial Instruments and Exchange Act as a Type I Financial Instruments Business Operator, a license that permits structuring and distribution of a wide range of financial products. Founded in 2019, the firm runs an online private placement bond platform and has supported more than 40 corporate clients and over 100 bond issues. Metaplanet expects Siiibo’s current team, including CEO Kazuki Komura, to remain in place and says existing customers will continue to receive services without interruption.
Metaplanet holds 40,177 BTC on its balance sheet as of June 12, 2026. The company plans to use that bitcoin treasury to back bitcoin-related yield products, digital securities, bitcoin-backed preferred shares, lending services and other BTC-linked instruments that would be distributed through Metaplanet Securities.
Japan is a focus for the company. Metaplanet estimates Japanese households hold about $7.4 trillion in cash, deposits, government bonds, domestic money-market funds, monthly-distribution funds and corporate bonds. The firm plans to package bitcoin exposure into regulated securities for sale to local investors and to its roughly 250,000 shareholders.
Simon Gerovich, Metaplanet’s chief executive, wrote on social media: “By bringing Siiibo’s online securities platform into the group, we will develop and distribute bitcoin-related yield products directly to Japanese investors, supported by the 40,177 BTC on our balance sheet.”
Financial details beyond the $13 million purchase price were not disclosed. Metaplanet described the acquisition as a way to combine its bitcoin holdings with regulated distribution infrastructure. Any new bitcoin-backed products would remain subject to supervision under Japan’s existing financial rules, and the companies said product development and potential issuance of BTC-backed instruments are expected after the deal closes in mid-2026.
