LSE to open overnight trading venue in early 2027
The London Stock Exchange plans a separate overnight trading venue in H1 2027, running 5:00 pm–7:50 am London time and initially listing exchange-traded products tied to UK and US markets.
The London Stock Exchange plans to open a separate overnight trading venue in the first half of 2027. The platform will operate from 5:00 pm to 7:50 am London time and will initially list exchange-traded products that track UK and US markets.
The overnight venue will run independently of the LSE’s main market, which will keep its current hours of 8:00 am to 4:30 pm. The separate market segment is intended to let investors trade certain products outside standard hours when other global markets are active.
At launch the facility will focus on exchange-traded products, including funds that follow UK and US stock indexes. LSE executives say the extended hours are intended to provide investors with additional flexibility to buy and sell these products at times that suit other time zones.
LSE chief executive Julia Hoggett has noted growing interest from retail traders in using London’s timezone to access both domestic and international assets.
The exchange has not published a full list of securities for the overnight venue or the detailed operating rules. Its timetable is designed to give brokers, trading firms and infrastructure providers time to adapt systems and meet regulatory requirements before the first-half-2027 start date.
The initiative follows a wider pattern of exchanges exploring longer trading hours and near-24-hour services. Some market participants and technology firms have already launched facilities and products to let investors trade outside traditional local market hours.
The main market’s schedule will remain unchanged. The overnight venue will offer an additional trading option for certain exchange-traded products while the LSE continues to finalise the venue’s structure and operational details with market participants and regulators.
