Foundry USA has asked its mining customers to vote on how the pool should signal on Bitcoin Improvement Proposal BIP-110. The company set the voting window to close when Bitcoin reaches block 961,632, which is expected in early August. Miners received a link by email to register their preference, and Foundry published educational materials explaining the proposal and how signaling works.
BIP-110 is a proposed soft fork that would reduce the amount of arbitrary data that can be stored inside Bitcoin transactions. The change would shrink the space available for non-monetary content, such as Ordinals inscriptions, and supporters say it would limit transactions that carry extra data rather than monetary transfers.
Miner signaling is a common mechanism for showing support or opposition to soft forks. Signals from large pools can influence whether a proposal moves toward activation because soft forks generally require broad miner backing to proceed.
Foundry is the largest Bitcoin mining pool by hashrate, accounting for about 23.8% of the network’s total hashrate, according to Hashrate Index. Given that share, the pool’s internal decision on how to signal BIP-110 could affect the wider miner consensus and the proposal’s path.
The proposal has faced criticism from some industry figures. Adam Back, chief executive of Blockstream, warned BIP-110 could be used to freeze user funds. Michael Saylor, executive chairman of MicroStrategy, argued the change could invalidate ordinary transactions on the network.
Foundry set the deadline by block height rather than a calendar date to align the vote with Bitcoin’s block-driven processes. The outcome of the customer vote will determine how the pool signals BIP-110 and will be monitored by miners, developers and users.
Foundry has not provided additional public comment beyond the emailed voting link and the educational materials.
