Ethereum whale who bought at $4,311 now down $23.8M

A wallet that bought 9,389 ETH at about $4,311 four years ago has an unrealized $23.8 million loss as ether trades near $1,780.

A single Ethereum wallet, identified on-chain as 0xFe99, received 9,389 ETH when ether traded near $4,311 about four years ago. That holding was worth roughly $40.5 million at the time. With ether trading around $1,777 to $1,780, the position is now valued at about $16.7 million, an unrealized loss of approximately $23.8 million, or 59 percent. On-chain records show the account remained largely unchanged through the cycle and has logged recent transfers consistent with a partial offload.

Separate on-chain activity in the same window shows a newly created address, 0xf31d, withdrew 8,239 ETH from multiple exchanges over about 12 hours, an amount valued near $14.5 million at current prices. Another wallet, 0x363A, accumulated 11,843 ETH in roughly three hours, worth about $20.8 million. Together those two wallets moved roughly 20,082 ETH, or about $35.3 million at current prices.

Ether is trading near $1,780, down about 32 percent year to date. The token recently fell below the $2,000 level it had defended for weeks. On-chain records show that earlier this month a large holder moved roughly $136 million worth of ether and staked derivatives.

Market participants monitor exchange outflows as potential indicators of transfers to cold storage or staking. Traders will watch whether ether reclaims the $2,000 level and whether withdrawals from exchanges continue.
