Coinbase lets U.S. users transfer stock portfolios via ACATS
U.S. customers can transfer stocks and ETFs from other brokerages into Coinbase Advanced via ACATS and trade those securities commission-free.
Coinbase announced on Tuesday that U.S. customers can transfer stock and ETF portfolios from other brokerages into Coinbase Advanced using the Automated Customer Account Transfer Service (ACATS). The company also offered zero-commission trading for those securities.
ACATS moves securities and cash between brokerages without requiring a sale, allowing customers to bring positions onto Coinbase intact. Coinbase added the transfer capability to let users consolidate stocks, ETFs and cryptocurrencies within a single account.
The platform will include TradingView charting tools, fractional shares and rewards of up to 3.5% on eligible USDC balances. Coinbase’s initial stock and ETF offering provided access to about 6,000 securities; the transfer feature is designed so customers can move entire portfolios rather than rebuild positions one by one.
Some features are available immediately and others will roll out over the coming months, the company confirmed. Coinbase said transfers will include both holdings and cash.
Coinbase plans to expand its trading lineup to include crypto and stock options, thematic equity index perpetual futures, pre-IPO perpetuals and expanded prediction markets. Availability will vary by product and jurisdiction, with some products launching for U.S. customers first.
The company reported a loss of $1.49 per share on $1.41 billion in revenue for the first quarter of 2026. Earlier results included stronger-than-expected fourth-quarter 2024 revenue growth.
The transfer capability places Coinbase in more direct competition with brokerages and fintech platforms that offer commission-free stock and ETF trading. Coinbase launched its initial stock and ETF trading earlier this year.
