Coinbase Details Progress Toward One Financial Platform

Coinbase on July 1 outlined advances toward an all-in-one platform, covering tokenized stocks, pre-IPO perpetuals, options, an SEC-registered AI adviser, payments rails and stablecoins.

Coinbase published a monthly recap on July 1 describing work to expand asset access on a single platform. The update listed developments across tokenized stocks, derivatives, artificial intelligence, payments rails and stablecoin infrastructure.

The report described tokenized stocks as one-to-one backed shares of U.S. companies that include dividends and support on-chain trading, custodial holding and redemption. The company emphasized these instruments are not derivatives or IOUs and noted they will not be available to U.S. persons.

Derivatives highlighted in the update include pre-IPO perpetual contracts that began with SpaceX and are planned to extend to OpenAI and Anthropic, stock options, crypto options through an integration with Deribit, U.S. perpetual contracts without expiration and equity index perpetual-style futures.

On artificial intelligence, Coinbase introduced Coinbase Advisor, an SEC-registered AI investment adviser built into the app to support portfolio analysis and automated tax-loss harvesting. The tool is being rolled out to subscribers of Coinbase One. The update also outlined autonomous software agents that users can connect to accounts under defined guardrails; those agents can execute trades, manage portfolios and interact with on-chain tools via Base MCP, a standardized connector, and x402, a payments protocol that lets agents send and receive USDC for services.

User-facing changes include a redesigned advanced trading interface, access to thousands of stocks and exchange-traded funds for U.S. traders, and a unified global liquidity pool designed to support trading across asset types. The company noted some products are live while others remain limited by jurisdiction, rollout timing or restricted availability.

Infrastructure work included direct INR rails in India, appointment as the official deployer of Hyperliquid’s USDC treasury wallet, and a partnership with Ethena covering more than $5 billion in assets. The update cited an approximately $4.4 billion USDC transfer to the Hyperliquid deployer. The report listed projects tied to stablecoin use across payments, custody and settlement, including a money-market ETF for stablecoin reserves, an Open USD initiative, instant stablecoin access for European UCITS funds, and payment products such as Checkout and MassPay.

CEO Brian Armstrong posted on X that “Coinbase is one of the most AI-enabled companies in the world, based on all the feedback I hear. We’re in the age of the super builder.” The company identified future measures of progress as liquidity, user adoption and regulatory access.

The update warned availability varies by jurisdiction and said several features remain in development or subject to phased rollouts. The company did not provide a comprehensive timetable for expanding restricted products to additional markets.
