Bybit Opens Local Platform in Indonesia After NOBI Deal
Bybit launched a locally run Indonesian exchange after buying a majority stake in PT Enkripsi Teknologi Handal (formerly NOBI) and rebranding it Bybit Indonesia. It will begin with 500 trading pairs.
Bybit announced Thursday that it has launched a locally operated platform in Indonesia after acquiring a majority stake in PT Enkripsi Teknologi Handal, the company formerly known as NOBI, and rebranding it Bybit Indonesia. The platform will roll out services in phases, starting with 500 cryptocurrency trading pairs.
The acquisition gives Bybit control of PT Enkripsi Teknologi Handal while keeping a local management team in place. The company said initial efforts will focus on the trading pairs catalog and related trading services as it completes a phased launch.
Lawrence Samantha will serve as chief executive officer and Dionisius Evan as chief operating officer of Bybit Indonesia; both previously held senior roles at NOBI. Bybit described the platform as locally operated, with Indonesian management and staff.
“This acquisition allows us to combine Bybit’s global capabilities with an experienced local team that understands Indonesia’s market and regulatory environment,” Lawrence Samantha, chief executive of Bybit Indonesia, commented.
Indonesia’s crypto market has seen rapid growth. The Indonesia Financial Services Authority reported 21.07 million registered crypto asset users as of February 2026, and total crypto transaction value in 2025 reached $26.85 billion (482 trillion Indonesian rupiah). As of April, regulators had licensed 31 crypto-related entities, including two crypto exchanges, two clearing institutions, two custodians and 25 digital asset traders; PT Enkripsi Teknologi Handal is listed among the licensed traders.
Bybit stated that it will combine its global platform and technology with the local team’s market and regulatory experience. The company did not disclose financial terms of the acquisition or a detailed timeline for later launch phases beyond the initial offering of 500 trading pairs.
