Breez routes BTC to USDC/USDT on 30+ blockchains

Breez has added a feature to its developer SDK that lets users send USDC or USDT from a Bitcoin balance to wallets on more than 30 blockchain networks. The feature uses the Lightning Network and automated conversion to route funds from Bitcoin into the recipient’s chosen stablecoin and chain.

When a developer integrates the Breez SDK, a user enters the recipient’s wallet address. The software identifies the destination blockchain, calculates a conversion route and displays the amount, target network and fees before the user confirms the payment.

Payments are routed through liquidity providers including Flashnet and Boltz. Those providers convert the sender’s Bitcoin into the chosen stablecoin and settle the funds on the recipient’s selected blockchain. The feature is non-custodial and keeps funds in Bitcoin for the sender until the payment is initiated.

Breez says the system does not require USDC or USDT to be issued on the Lightning Network. The company uses interoperability between Lightning and other blockchains to perform conversions and deliver stablecoins to the recipient’s preferred network.

Roy Sheinfeld, chief executive of Breez, noted that ‘USDT or USDC do not need to be issued on Lightning for users to spend from a Bitcoin balance while recipients receive stablecoins on other chains.’

The capability currently supports outbound stablecoin payments only. Breez plans to add support for receiving stablecoins from external blockchains in a future release.

Industry data show monthly Lightning Network transaction volume rose from roughly $12 million in 2021 to more than $1 billion by late 2025. In February, an institutional trading desk completed a $1 million Lightning payment to an exchange in under half a second.

Other recent developments tie business credit and payment flows to Lightning, embed Lightning wallets in event platforms, and fund startups building stablecoin issuance and settlement technology on Bitcoin.

Breez says the SDK lets developers add stablecoin payouts without integrating multiple blockchains or requiring users to manage separate Bitcoin and stablecoin balances.
