Bitget registers as financial services provider in New Zealand

Bitget registered on New Zealand’s Financial Services Providers Register, permitting FX, domestic and cross-border transfers, client asset custody and portfolio and money management.

Cryptocurrency exchange Bitget registered as a financial services provider on New Zealand’s Financial Services Providers Register (FSPR), the company announced on Thursday. The registration permits foreign exchange transactions, domestic and cross-border money transfers, custody of client assets, and portfolio and money management in New Zealand.

At the time of publication the FSPR’s public register did not list Bitget. The exchange ranks sixth worldwide by daily trading volume, with about $389 million in daily trades, according to CoinMarketCap.

Registration on the FSPR authorizes the specific activities that require registration under New Zealand rules and gives Bitget a formal presence in the country’s regulated framework.

Earlier regulatory approvals this year include June 2025 authorization to operate as a digital asset exchange and custodial wallet provider in Georgia. Bitget holds a U.K. authorization through its affiliate Archax, is registered with Italy’s Organismo Agenti e Mediatori, and is listed as a virtual asset service provider in Poland, Bulgaria, Lithuania and the Czech Republic.

In January the company announced plans to establish a European headquarters in Vienna, Austria, and appointed Oliver Stauber, the former chief legal officer at Bitpanda and former head of KuCoin EU, as CEO of Bitget EU to lead expansion under the Markets in Crypto-Assets Regulation (MiCA).

The FSPR entry is the most recent registration the exchange has disclosed while it seeks approvals to offer custody, exchange and payment services in regulated markets.
