Bitcoin logs third-busiest day with 862,979 transactions

Bitcoin’s blockchain processed 862,979 transactions on June 23, 2026, according to Blockchair, the third-highest single-day total since the network launched in January 2009.

The only two days with higher counts were April 23, 2024, at 927,010 transactions and Sept. 8, 2024, at 910,083. The June 23, 2026 total exceeds every day recorded in 2025 and all but four days in 2024.

Monthly average daily transactions climbed each month in the first half of 2026: January 390,877; February 468,602; March 475,075; April 560,212; May 645,363; June 651,655. From January through June the monthly average rose 66.7% and the monthly median rose 64.2%.

Through July 5, 2026, the year-to-date median daily transaction count was 529,623 and the average 533,890, with a cumulative total of about 99.3 million transactions over 186 days. Both the year-to-date median and average exceed the full-year median and average posted in 2024 and 2025.

Activity in 2025 was lower: the median daily transaction count fell to 417,151, down 18% from 2024’s median of 508,934. The 2025 average dropped to 421,184, a 19.8% decline from 2024. Total transactions in 2025 were 153.7 million, roughly 38.5 million fewer than 2024. The 2025 calendar year recorded zero days above 700,000 transactions and zero days above 800,000; 2024 logged 51 days above 700,000 and 10 days above 800,000.

Year-over-year comparisons show June 2025 averaged 342,866 transactions per day while June 2026 averaged 651,655, a 90.1% increase. Through July 5, 2026, the average transaction count for the year-to-date period ran 38.5% above the same stretch in 2025 and the median was 41.6% higher.

Threshold measures through July 5 show 59 days at or above 600,000 transactions in 2026, compared with five such days in all of 2025 and 107 in 2024.

Short-term volatility appeared in early July. On July 5, 2026, the network recorded 367,365 transactions, down from 766,307 the day before, a single-day decline of 398,942, the largest drop in the 2024–2026 window. The five-day average for July 1–5 was 595,193 with a median of 613,353.

The all-time annual and daily highs remain in 2024, which posted a full-year total of 192.2 million transactions and four of the five busiest single days. The first half of 2026 produced steady month-to-month increases in average daily transactions through June and posted several daily and average measures through early July that are at or above comparable 2024 and 2025 figures.
