Bitcoin Rebounds as 200-Day EMA Holds; Death Cross Stays

Bitcoin rebounded to about $66,200 after testing lows near $58,000 as the daily 200 EMA held; the 50-day EMA remains below the 200-day EMA.

Bitcoin traded near $66,200 after tests of lows around $58,000 in recent weeks as the daily 200-period exponential moving average acted as support. The 50-day EMA remains below the 200-day EMA, maintaining a death cross on the daily chart.

Price action narrowed after the bounce, with the 200-day EMA supporting buying that pushed the coin into the mid-$60,000s. The Relative Strength Index is about 59.9, above the neutral 50 line, and the Average Directional Index stands near 19.5, a reading typically interpreted as a market without a strong trend.

On-chain and flow indicators show a prolonged negative reading on the Coinbase Premium Index. The premium has been below zero since May and has recorded more than 900 consecutive hours under zero, a pattern consistent with limited U.S. institutional premium demand.

Prediction markets assign modest odds to an immediate breakout. One market prices roughly a 19% chance that Bitcoin clears $68,000 by July 26 and about a 55% probability that it reaches $66,000. The same market gives a 64.6% probability that Bitcoin will hit $55,000 before reaching $84,000.

Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent told lawmakers the Clarity Act is at the ‘1-yard line’ and urged Congress to pass the legislation before the August recess. Supporters expect a favorable vote could resolve a long-running jurisdictional dispute between regulators and potentially draw more institutional capital into the market.

U.S. equity markets opened mixed on Wednesday, with the S&P 500 down about 0.16% and the Nasdaq off about 0.56% at the bell. The Crypto Fear & Greed Index stood at 33.

Bullish arguments center on the 200-day EMA holding as support, an RSI above 50 and the prospect of clearer regulation. Bearish arguments note the active death cross, the low ADX reading and the extended negative Coinbase Premium as evidence of limited institutional accumulation.

Market participants are monitoring institutional demand and momentum indicators for signs of a decisive directional shift.
