Bitcoin Trades Cheaper on Coinbase for 50 Straight Days
The Coinbase Bitcoin Premium Index was negative for 50 consecutive days through July 7–8, 2026, at about -0.0742%, showing bitcoin traded slightly cheaper on Coinbase than on Binance.
The Coinbase Bitcoin Premium Index remained negative for 50 straight days through July 7–8, 2026, recording a -0.0742% reading that indicates bitcoin traded slightly cheaper on Coinbase than on Binance during that period.
The streak began on May 19, 2026, and surpassed the previous record of 40 consecutive negative days. The index measures the price gap between Coinbase, a U.S.-based exchange, and Binance, which operates mainly outside the U.S. A negative reading reflects relatively weaker buying pressure on Coinbase compared with offshore venues.
Small differences in timestamps and data feeds can produce slightly different daily readings, but the negative direction persisted through early July.
U.S. spot bitcoin ETFs recorded about $6 billion in net outflows year-to-date through early July 2026. In late June, those ETFs saw more than $2.6 billion exit over nine trading days before flows turned modestly positive. The combined group of bitcoin and ether ETFs registered roughly $282 million of inflows that ended an eight-week outflow streak.
BlackRock’s IBIT had not shown a sustained inflow run as of early July 2026. Market participants are monitoring flows into IBIT as a measure of institutional demand in the U.S.
Price action during the 50-day stretch was mixed. Bitcoin recorded a six-day winning streak, its longest since March, and traded near $63,482 at one point, but the Coinbase premium did not move into sustained positive territory.
Traders use the Coinbase premium as one microstructure signal to identify where buying interest originates: when U.S. buyers are active, Coinbase prices often trade at a premium to offshore venues; when U.S. demand softens, the premium can turn negative.
The extended negative reading through July 7–8, 2026, coincided with ETF outflows and intermittent price gains. Market participants will watch whether continued ETF flows and sustained inflows into IBIT change the Coinbase premium.
