Binance outlines support as EU MiCA rules take effect
Binance contacted affected EU users as MiCA took effect July 1, 2026, confirming customer assets remain held 1:1 and transfers or withdrawals remain available where applicable.
On July 1, 2026, Binance notified users affected by the European Union’s Markets in Crypto-Assets rules that it is implementing operational changes while keeping customer assets matched one-to-one. The exchange restricted access to some accounts in EU markets while it makes the adjustments required under MiCA.
Binance suspended crypto services in the EU markets covered by the new rules and informed impacted users they will receive direct notifications with next steps. The company noted that whether transfers or withdrawals are available depends on an individual’s location and account status, and it directed customers to official support channels for account-specific questions.
The firm withdrew a MiCA application in Greece and is pursuing an alternate licensing route while continuing talks with regulators across the bloc. Binance added it is updating operations to comply with the unified crypto framework and maintaining communication with supervisors and affected clients.
In a statement to users, Binance wrote, “Your assets remain safe on Binance, and affected users will continue to have access to the options already communicated to them, including transfers and withdrawals where applicable.” The exchange reiterated that assets on the platform are matched to customer holdings during the transition.
MiCA establishes a single rulebook for crypto service providers operating in the EU, setting licensing requirements, investor protections and oversight mechanisms. The European Securities and Markets Authority instructed unauthorized crypto firms to wind down operations, stop onboarding new clients and clearly communicate with customers before the July 1 deadline. Firms without authorization must cease regulated activities or operate under MiCA’s limited permissions.
Binance will continue engaging with European regulators as it seeks authorization and works to resolve account-level limits for affected users.
