Binance posts $1.61T June futures amid spot slump

Binance recorded $1.61 trillion in futures trading in June, its highest monthly total in 2026, while centralized exchange spot trading hit a two-year quarterly low.

Binance recorded $1.61 trillion in futures trading in June, the exchange’s largest monthly futures volume so far in 2026, while spot trading on centralized exchanges posted its weakest quarter in two years.

June futures volume at Binance rose to $1.61 trillion, an 80% increase from May’s $893 billion. Competing exchanges logged lower June futures totals: OKX reported $609 billion and Bybit $434 billion, up about 9% and 18% from May, respectively. All three exchanges previously registered higher monthly futures volumes in January 2026, when Binance processed roughly $1.5 trillion, OKX $667 billion and Bybit $502 billion.

Across centralized exchanges, futures volume for the second quarter fell to $15.7 trillion, down 11% from $17.6 trillion in Q1, marking a third consecutive quarterly decline. Binance remained the largest futures venue in Q2, holding about 28% market share.

Spot trading slowed further. Centralized exchange spot volume dropped to $3 trillion in Q2, an 18.9% decline from Q1 and the weakest quarterly total in two years. Binance led spot trading with $731 billion for the quarter, while its share of spot volume slipped from 27% to 24%.

CryptoQuant analyst Maarten Regterschot, who posts as “Maartuun,” flagged the June futures increase and wrote, “That might seem unexpected,” noting that Bitcoin was trading in the mid-$60,000s as many traders described the market as bearish.

The June figures preceded a new phase of Europe’s Markets in Crypto-Assets (MiCA) regulatory transition on July 1. Binance withdrew its application for a license in Greece in late June. Early July data from CryptoQuant show Binance recorded $418 billion in futures volume in the first 10 days of the month.

Futures contracts are financial derivatives that let traders agree to buy or sell an asset at a future date, often using leverage to increase exposure. Spot trading involves the immediate exchange of cryptocurrency for cash or another asset.
