A16z-linked wallet deposits $28M in HYPE amid price drop

A wallet tied to Andreessen Horowitz moved 437,000 HYPE, about $28.38 million, to Hyperliquid and exchanges OKX, Bybit and Gate over two days as the token fell about 10%.

Onchain data show a wallet linked to Andreessen Horowitz deposited 437,000 HYPE, roughly $28.38 million, onto Hyperliquid and centralized exchanges OKX, Bybit and Gate over a two-day period. Blockchain trackers flagged the transfers and identified the receiving addresses as exchange wallets.

The addresses belong to an address cluster that accumulated a large HYPE stake earlier in 2026. That cluster built a position of about 3.9 million HYPE, valued at approximately $192.6 million at earlier prices. The connection to Andreessen Horowitz is based on onchain labeling and funding trails; the firm has not publicly confirmed ownership of the addresses.

Onchain trackers previously recorded the same cluster moving 77,402 HYPE, about $5.18 million, into OKX and Bybit earlier in the month, with subsequent activity implying about $10.19 million in sales over two days. At 437,000 HYPE, the latest transfers are nearly three times the volume of the earlier tracked selling.

HYPE traded near $59.38 on July 17, down roughly 10% over 24 hours and about 12% over two days. Renewed tensions between the U.S. and Iran around the Strait of Hormuz coincided with a risk-off episode that produced about $1.35 billion in liquidations across crypto markets, more than $1.07 billion of which came from long positions. HYPE accounted for roughly $14.7 million of those liquidations, predominantly from long positions. Bitcoin fell about 1.9% to near $63,000 over the same period.

A separate onchain record shows an address linked to the same cluster withdrew 25,560 ether, about $42.6 million, from Binance. The 437,000 HYPE moved to exchanges represents only a fraction of the roughly 3.9 million HYPE the cluster amassed. Additional transfers to exchange addresses would increase exchange-held balances; a pause in transfers would leave them unchanged.

It remains unclear whether the recent activity represents portfolio trimming or a full exit. Onchain trackers and market observers say the pace and scale of any future transfers to exchanges will indicate whether further selling follows.
