3.55M BTC Cluster Creates Supply Wall as Bitcoin Nears $68,000

Bitcoin traded near $68,000 as a cluster of 3.55 million BTC with cost bases around that level created an ask-side supply wall, limiting further gains despite spot ETF inflows.

Bitfinex analysts identified a cluster of 3.55 million BTC whose cost bases sit near $68,000, creating ask-side liquidity that has constrained the market as prices approach that level.

Bitcoin gained roughly 10% in July, recovering from lows near $58,000 to about $63,955 on July 24, but repeatedly stalled near $68,000. Spot bitcoin ETFs and derivatives positioning were the primary drivers of July’s rally, according to the exchange’s analysis. U.S. spot bitcoin ETFs recorded a seven-session inflow streak in mid-July and continued to attract net inflows during the month.

The resistance near $68,000 aligns with two technical references: the short-term holder realized price at $68,073 and the April monthly open at $68,266. The 3.55 million coins were acquired mostly six to 12 months ago, and many holders are close to breakeven, which increases the incentive to sell as prices return to entry points.

Bitfinex analysts wrote: “What caps the move is ask-side liquidity in the order books.”

Entities holding between 100 and 1,000 BTC sold about $5.1 billion worth of bitcoin during May and June at current prices. That selling volume exceeded what spot ETFs absorbed during their strongest seven-day buying streak, which has helped keep the price below $68,000 despite steady ETF demand.

The next market test is whether bitcoin can establish and hold above $68,000 without heavy reliance on leveraged futures. A sustained advance driven by steady spot buying rather than speculative leverage would indicate ETF flows and other buyers are absorbing the concentrated supply from holders seeking to break even.

Bitfinex analysts wrote: “What is driving BTC price action in July is internal to the cryptocurrency market: exchange traded fund (ETF) flows and derivatives positioning.”

The short-term holder realized price measures the average price paid by coins moved in recent months. The April monthly open marks the price at the start of April trading. Market participants are watching ETF inflows, exchange order books and derivatives funding rates for signs that buying is broad enough to absorb the concentrated supply near $68,000.
