Startale Japan Launches Yen Stablecoin-Paid Digital Bond
Startale Japan announced a digital corporate bond that will pay interest and principal in JPYSC, a yen-denominated trust-type stablecoin issued by SBI Shinsei Trust Bank.
Startale Japan announced the bond in Tokyo on Oct. 6, 2026. Startale Japan Co., Ltd., a wholly owned subsidiary of Singapore-based Startale Group, is the legal issuer.
The bond will pay scheduled interest and the final repayment of principal in JPYSC instead of through traditional payment systems. The companies describe it as Japan’s first digital corporate bond with both types of payment made in a yen-denominated trust-type stablecoin.
The offering is limited to individual investors and companies in Japan. It is not available to overseas investors.
SBI Shinsei Trust Bank issues JPYSC and manages the trust assets backing it. The stablecoin is designed to maintain a one-to-one value with the Japanese yen and is classified as a Type 3 Electronic Payment Instrument under Japan’s Payment Services Act.
JPYSC was developed through a partnership between SBI Group and Startale Group. SBI VC Trade serves as the issuance trustor and leads issuance and distribution. Startale Group provides the technology supporting the stablecoin.
The bond combines those functions in a corporate financing transaction. It uses JPYSC for payments at two points in the bond’s lifecycle: scheduled interest payments and the final repayment of principal.
In a statement, Sota Watanabe, CEO of Startale Group, said the company wants to create new options for corporate fundraising and individual investment by bringing financial transactions onchain. He described the issuance as a pilot for using JPYSC to make interest and principal payments.
Startale Japan said the company will use the experience to assess potential applications for JPYSC in corporate finance, digital securities, remittances, payments and other financial transactions.
