Ripple uses AI to automate treasury while keeping human control

Ripple is introducing AI to automate routine treasury tasks while maintaining human oversight for approvals, risk decisions and exceptions.

Ripple Labs is rolling out artificial intelligence to automate routine treasury operations while keeping humans in charge of approvals and risk judgments. The company announced there is no firm launch date and that the automation will be phased in across its treasury team.

The program targets repetitive tasks such as monitoring cash and crypto balances, running regular reconciliations, producing cash and liquidity forecasts, and executing predefined transactions. Final approvals for discretionary trades, policy changes and any actions beyond preset authorization or risk limits will remain with treasury staff.

Governance features will include approval thresholds, segregation of duties and human review of exceptions. The AI systems will operate within predefined rules and flag any activity outside those bounds for immediate human intervention. Ripple intends to keep audit trails and change logs to support internal audits and regulatory reporting.

Ripple expects the tools to interact with existing treasury systems and reporting platforms and to produce decision records for compliance purposes. The company described the approach as combining machine-run processes for predictable tasks with human review points for strategic or unusual situations.

The stated goals are to speed routine processes, reduce manual errors, improve response times when markets move and better manage liquidity across fiat and digital assets. Ripple’s treasury handles cash, fiat deposits and significant holdings of the digital asset XRP, which the company has historically held in reserves and managed through escrow arrangements.

The rollout follows broader adoption of machine learning and rule-based automation in treasury teams across finance and crypto. Ripple framed its program as cautious and oversight-driven, emphasizing retained human control over policy and high-risk activity. Founded in 2012 and based in San Francisco, Ripple develops payment and settlement technology built on the XRP Ledger and has previously highlighted compliance and transparency as operational priorities.
