Memecoin bounties move from screens to real-world stunts
Pump.fun’s bounty marketplace paid people to shave heads, drink on camera and tattoo token names. A man in Tamil Nadu tattooed ‘$boutywork’ on his forehead to claim a bounty.
Pump.fun is a Solana-based token launchpad that operated a GO bounty marketplace where users offered cryptocurrency payments for promotional tasks. The marketplace let token creators post paid tasks that participants could complete on camera in exchange for crypto rewards.
Reported tasks ranged from social media posts to staged public stunts. Participants accepted payments to shave their heads live, drink alcohol on camera and tattoo token tickers on their bodies. In one case, a man in Tamil Nadu identified as Arivu tattooed “$boutywork” on his forehead; the tattoo contained a spelling error.
Pump.fun’s tools reduced technical and financial barriers to token creation, enabling almost anyone to deploy a memecoin within minutes. Millions of tokens were launched through the platform, and some promoters used bounty tasks to boost visibility and trading activity.
The platform’s livestreaming features previously drew criticism for sensational content. Live streams were suspended for a period and later reinstated with added moderation measures.
Supporters argued the tools democratized token creation and allowed nontechnical users to participate in memecoin launches. They described participation as voluntary and compared some bounties to other entertainment formats where people accept personal risk for payment or attention.
Critics raised concerns about consent and financial pressure. They noted that small immediate rewards can appeal to people facing economic hardship and that some participants may not understand long-term consequences of permanent acts such as tattoos. Consumer protection, labor and securities regulators could review bounty programs, and legal classifications are likely to vary by jurisdiction.
Memecoins often gain value through cultural resonance and visibility rather than technical features. Examples include Dogecoin’s community growth, PEPE’s meme origins and BONK’s activity on Solana. In those markets, attention can affect trading liquidity and price movement.
Community reactions were divided. Some members described incidents as isolated and expected moderation or community norms to limit harmful behavior. Others warned competition for attention could lead to riskier stunts and called for clearer safeguards.
