Prediction markets have recorded about $5.5 million in combined trading on the Kentucky 4th Congressional District Republican primary, with challenger Ed Gallrein holding a slim lead over seven-term Rep. Thomas Massie as ad spending tops $25 million ahead of the May 19 vote.
On Polymarket, the KY-04 Republican Primary Winner market has $1,417,372 in total volume. Gallrein’s contracts traded at 52 cents, implying a 52% probability, while Massie’s were at 50 cents. Massie has attracted about $999,625 in individual trading on that platform, compared with roughly $348,815 for Gallrein. Two other candidates, Nicole Lee Ethington and Robert Wells Jr., hold less than 1% probability on that market.
Kalshi’s KY-04 nominee market shows $4,131,826 in trading volume. Gallrein’s “Yes” contracts trade at about 52 cents and Massie’s at about 49 cents. Ethington and Wells remain below 1% on Kalshi as well.
Ad tracking firm Adimpact estimates more than $25 million in television, radio and digital ad spending through mid-May. Outside groups account for most of that total. Pro-Gallrein super PAC spending is estimated at $14 million or more, including roughly $4 million from the Republican Jewish Coalition and about $2.6 million from organizations tied to AIPAC. Pro-Massie outside spending is estimated at roughly $10 million to $11 million.
Campaign finance filings through late April show Massie raised about $5.5 million and has spent most of it. Gallrein reported raising roughly $3.1 million directly. Gallrein is a fifth-generation Shelby County farmer and a retired U.S. Navy SEAL captain who served on SEAL Team Six. He received former President Donald Trump’s endorsement in October 2025 after public disputes between Trump and Massie over votes on foreign aid, government funding and other issues. Massie was first elected in a 2012 special election and has advanced libertarian-leaning positions, opposed unchecked government spending, expressed skepticism of foreign military entanglements and accepted bitcoin donations for this campaign.
A May 11-12 Quantus Insights poll of about 900 likely voters put Gallrein at 48% and Massie at 43%, with 8% undecided. Earlier surveys had shown Massie leading; campaign officials and outside groups point to turnout as a key factor for the May 19 outcome. Neither candidate agreed to a formal debate. Gallrein has emphasized his military service and support for the former president’s agenda. Massie has highlighted his voting record and opposition to outside spending by wealthy groups.
Kentucky’s 4th District covers parts of northeastern Kentucky, including Cincinnati suburbs and areas extending toward Louisville. Registered Republicans make up a large majority in the district, so the Republican primary winner is heavily favored in the November general election. Polls open at 6 a.m. ET and close at 6 p.m. ET on May 19, with results expected shortly after polls close.
