DoorDash to Offer Dashers Stablecoin Pay via Tempo
DoorDash will let Dashers opt to receive pay in stablecoins via Tempo, the Stripe- and Paradigm-backed blockchain that launched mainnet in March 2026.
DoorDash will give delivery drivers the option to receive earnings in stablecoins through Tempo, a blockchain backed by Stripe and Paradigm. Tempo launched its mainnet in March 2026 after a $500 million Series A in October 2025 that valued the project at $5 billion. DoorDash has worked with Tempo as a design partner since September 2025.
Payouts on Tempo settle in seconds, compared with the one-to-three business days typical for ACH bank transfers. Tempo uses a built-in automated market maker that allows gas fees and transfers to be paid in multiple stablecoins, including USDC and USDT, so the network can accept tokens from different issuers.
The network was built for payments rather than trading, targets more than 100,000 transactions per second and aims for sub-second finality. Tempo’s mainnet launch also introduced a Machine Payments Protocol designed for transactions between software agents.
DoorDash already offers financial services to drivers through its Dasher Crimson product. Tempo has formed a small stablecoin advisory unit to help partner companies integrate the blockchain into payroll and payments systems, providing engineering support for wallet setup and related work.
Several implementation details remain unsettled. DoorDash has not set a rollout date, has not confirmed whether the option will begin as a pilot, and has not named which stablecoins or countries will be included at launch. Tax and payroll rules for crypto vary by state and country and are likely to affect how any opt-in process and reporting are structured.
Stripe’s relationship with Circle makes USDC a likely early option, though Tempo’s design allows multiple stablecoins. Other firms building on Tempo include Anthropic, OpenAI, Shopify, Visa, Nubank, Revolut and Deutsche Bank.
DoorDash and Tempo indicated that further rollout details will appear on the Dasher portal and Tempo’s official channels once a plan is finalized.
