Cysic Offers 10% Bounty After Hacker Sends $744,000 to Tornado Cash

A wallet linked to Cysic’s bridge exploit sent about $744,000 in Ether and BNB to Tornado Cash on Friday, after the foundation offered a 10% bounty for the funds’ return.

A wallet linked to Cysic’s bridge exploit sent about $744,000 in Ether (ETH) and BNB to Tornado Cash on Friday, after the Cysic Foundation offered a 10% bounty for the return of the stolen funds.

The address transferred 300 ETH and 30.4 BNB to the cryptocurrency mixer, according to blockchain security firm PeckShield. Tornado Cash combines deposits from multiple addresses, making transactions harder to trace.

The attacker exploited a vulnerability in Cysic’s bridge on Saturday to mint 10 million Cysic (CYS) tokens on BNB Smart Chain. Cysic suspended the bridge and blacklisted the recipient address, freezing about 2.8 million of the newly minted tokens.

The Cysic Foundation offered the bounty the following Thursday in exchange for the return of 275.872 ETH, worth about $665,000 at the time. The amount represented roughly 90% of the identified Ether proceeds linked to the exploit.

Cysic’s mainnet and assets already held in user wallets were unaffected, according to the foundation. The attacker’s Ethereum wallet held about $45 in ETH at the time of reporting, based on blockchain data from Arkham.
