Consensys and Lubin Pledge 30,000 ETH to rsETH Recovery
Consensys and Ethereum co-founder Joe Lubin committed up to 30,000 ETH on April 27 to DeFi United to restore rsETH backing after an April 18 bridge incident.
Consensys and Ethereum co-founder Joe Lubin pledged up to 30,000 ETH to DeFi United on April 27, 2026, to help restore backing for the rsETH token after a bridge incident on April 18 created a shortfall. The funds are available immediately to support affected rsETH holders while protocol governance processes continue.
DeFi United, announced April 23, is a coalition formed to coordinate funding, governance and technical responses to the rsETH backing gap. The group includes Aave DAO, Lido, Etherfi, Ethena, Mantle, Ink Foundation, Tydro, Golem Foundation, Golem Project and Frax, among others.
Aave service providers helped initiate the coordinated effort. Organizers say the Consensys and Lubin commitment is intended to accelerate recovery by making capital available now rather than waiting for separate governance votes. Governance approvals across affected protocols are proceeding in parallel with fundraising and technical work.
The coalition also lists individual contributors and institutions. Aave founder Stani Kulechov and contributor Emilio Frangella appear among participants. Institutional contributors such as BGD Labs and a large number of community members have reportedly pledged support. Sharplink, which trades on Nasdaq under the ticker SBET, joined in an advisory role to help structure the recovery plan.
Kulechov praised the available funding for allowing recovery work to move forward without delay and said the contribution supports efforts to make rsETH holders whole and normalize market conditions. Lubin described the effort as a coordinated response by Ethereum stewards, saying the ecosystem will continue to adapt and strengthen its infrastructure.
DeFi United plans to publish further funding updates and progress information at defiunited.world. The coalition combines liquidity providers, liquid staking protocols, stablecoin projects, layer-2 networks and individual contributors to close the rsETH backing gap while longer-term governance and remediation measures are implemented.
