Coinbase Adds Stocks, Perps and SEC-Registered AI Advisor
Coinbase rolled out a System Update letting customers trade U.S. stocks, ETFs and indexes alongside crypto, and adding tokenized stocks, options, perpetual futures and SEC-registered AI advisors.
Coinbase announced on Tuesday a broad product update that expands trading beyond cryptocurrencies to include U.S. stocks, ETFs and indexes on its platform. The changes were released as part of the exchange’s latest System Update and apply to customers on Coinbase’s app and web platform.
The update introduces tokenized stocks that Coinbase says will be backed one-for-one by the underlying shares, with dividends passed through to holders. Customers can transfer a stock portfolio from another brokerage into Coinbase to hold these tokenized positions alongside crypto assets.
Options trading will be available for both traditional equities and crypto tokens. The firm also plans to offer perpetual futures, including thematic baskets linked to sectors such as artificial intelligence, defense and Chinese equities. Coinbase plans to offer pre-IPO perpetuals, which provide synthetic exposure to companies before their public listings.
The company announced an SEC-registered AI advisor and automated trading agents that can build and execute strategies across crypto and traditional markets. Coinbase described infrastructure to route orders and manage positions according to algorithmic or AI-driven instructions.
Consumer features added in the update include a USDC-backed credit card, Bitcoin travel rewards, a new travel booking portal and loans that let customers borrow against staked Solana. The firm framed the package as combining brokerage, banking and robo-advisory functions with its existing exchange services.
Coinbase did not provide specific launch dates for every feature in the update. The company noted that some elements, including the AI advisory service, were structured to align with current regulatory frameworks.
In recent years Coinbase has expanded into custody services, staking, derivatives and institutional products. The company describes the latest update as the next phase of its product roadmap to let customers manage a broader range of financial activities within a single platform.
