Coachella, DeepMind Build 3 AI Prototypes at 2026 Festival

At Coachella 2026 the festival teamed with Google DeepMind to develop three AI prototypes: 3D show recreations, a stage-design app and the game Coachella vs. The Game.

Coachella partnered with Google DeepMind during the 2026 festival to build and test three experimental AI tools aimed at changing how performances are recreated, planned and previewed for fans.

The projects used Project Genie, DeepMind’s platform for creating interactive digital environments known as world models. Coachella’s innovation team captured lighting, audio, visual effects and the movement of artists and crowds during a Quasar stage set and rebuilt the performance in Unreal Engine. The result is an explorable 3D version of the show that can be replayed, viewed from different angles or presented with alternate visuals generated in real time.

A second prototype is a stage-design application that lets performers upload visuals or enter text prompts to preview how a set will look on digital models of Coachella stages. The app can show different times of day and varying crowd levels, with the stated goal of giving smaller acts access to production-planning tools normally used by larger artists.

The third prototype is a mobile title called Coachella vs. The Game. In it, players control an astronaut who explores digital worlds inspired by festival artists. The team compared the game to pre-visit experiences at a theme park, saying it gives fans a way to explore the lineup before arriving at the festival.

Ryan Cenicola, Coachella’s innovation production lead, described the collaboration as an effort to expand creative options for artists and simplify fan experiences. Kevin McMahon, the festival’s innovation partnerships lead, pointed to DeepMind’s visual models and the existing technical relationship with Google, including work on the festival’s livestream, as reasons for the partnership.

Coachella characterized the three projects as internal proofs of concept. The festival said teams are reviewing test results from the 2026 event and working with DeepMind to decide next steps; no public release timeline has been set.

The DeepMind work follows previous technology experiments at Coachella. In 2024 the festival introduced Coachella Quests, a blockchain-based game on the Avalanche network that let attendees earn perks via NFT stamps. The festival has also offered AR effects for livestream viewers and issued NFT passes and collectibles in recent years.

Coachella and DeepMind will continue evaluating the prototypes and the festival said further development depends on those reviews.
