Arthur Hayes Buys $6.39M More Ether, 7,213 ETH Total

Hayes purchased 3,298 ETH for $6.39 million, raising his July holdings to 7,213 ETH. The position is about $301,000 underwater at an average entry of $1,923 per ETH.

Arthur Hayes, chief investment officer of the family office Maelstrom and former BitMEX CEO, bought 3,298 ether (ETH) for $6.39 million. The trade raised his July total to 7,213 ETH at an average price of $1,923 per token. At prices near $1,900, that holding is about $301,000 underwater.

Wallet-tracking services flagged the transaction shortly after execution and linked it to a wallet associated with Hayes. The $6.39 million purchase followed earlier July acquisitions that included a 646 ETH over-the-counter trade with Galaxy Digital and a separate 1,293 ETH buy.

In June, a wallet tied to Hayes sold 6,000 ETH for roughly $10.14 million at an average price near $1,690, realizing an estimated $606,000 loss on ETH accumulated weeks earlier at an average near $1,793. In August 2025, a wallet linked to him sold about $13.35 million in crypto, including 2,373 ETH, citing concerns over a proposed U.S. tariff bill.

In an April note, he wrote that rising credit creation and coordination between fiscal and monetary authorities would push asset prices higher and added, ‘That’s why I believe bitcoin is going higher.’ He has applied similar liquidity arguments to ether and treated some price pullbacks as buying opportunities.

Ether traded near $1,900 on July 28, up about 20% for the month and down roughly 49% from a year earlier. Institutional demand increased during the week of July 20-24, when ether exchange-traded funds recorded inflows of $103.90 million compared with $33.79 million into bitcoin funds.

Hayes’ July purchases bring his documented accumulation since July 15 to 7,213 ETH. Maelstrom provides little public detail about its holdings, so on-chain wallet activity remains a primary source for tracking its trades.
