Zcash nears $1,400 after Paradigm discloses ZEC purchase

Zcash traded near $1,338 after a roughly 20% jump in 24 hours following Matt Huang’s disclosure that Paradigm bought ZEC and invested in the Zcash Open Development Lab.

Zcash (ZEC) traded near $1,338 on Thursday after rising about 20% in 24 hours, pushing the privacy-focused token closer to $1,400. The one-day gain followed a disclosure from Paradigm and exceeded Bitcoin’s recent one-month rise.

Paradigm co-founder Matt Huang wrote on Wednesday that the firm purchased ZEC and invested in the Zcash Open Development Lab (ZODL). He said Paradigm is an investor in ZODL and a ZEC token holder, and he did not disclose the size of the token purchase.

The price movement came after the Federal Reserve raised its benchmark rate by 25 basis points to a target range of 3.75%–4.0%, the central bank’s first increase since 2023. The wider cryptocurrency market moved higher on the rate news.

Coingecko data showed ZEC’s one-month gain at roughly 160%, compared with Bitcoin’s one-month rise of about 18.2%.

In March, ZODL announced a seed funding round of more than $25 million that included Paradigm, a16z crypto, Coinbase Ventures and Winklevoss Capital. The round was targeted at supporting development work for Zcash and related technologies.

Zcash enables shielded transactions that hide sender and recipient addresses and transaction amounts using zero-knowledge proofs. In his post, Huang called Zcash a “private complement to Bitcoin” and expressed support for an inflation-funded developer fund to provide steady long-term financing. He favored combining Zcash coin voting with other governance mechanisms to reduce unpredictability for the token as a monetary asset.

On-chain analytics from Glassnode showed the privacy coin sector about 213% above its level at Bitcoin’s October 2025 peak, while a basket of privacy coins excluding ZEC rose roughly 85% over the past year. Zcash protocol updates and renewed interest in privacy solutions have coincided with the sector’s gains.

Market participants have pointed to governance and funding models as areas of increased attention for protocol maintenance and upgrades. Paradigm’s disclosed ZEC holdings and its investment in ZODL added to examples of institutional involvement in privacy-focused projects.
