XRP ETFs hold 1.18B as Ripple plans 1B escrow release
XRP exchange-traded funds hold about 1.18 billion XRP while Ripple prepares to release 1 billion XRP from escrow under its monthly schedule.
Custody disclosures and on-chain records show multiple XRP exchange-traded funds hold roughly 1.18 billion XRP on behalf of investors. At the same time, Ripple is preparing a scheduled escrow release of 1 billion XRP.
The ETF holdings are concentrated under fund managers and custodians that buy and store XRP to provide investors with exchange-traded exposure. The combined ETF custody now exceeds the single-month amount Ripple has set for its escrow tranche.
Ripple placed a large portion of XRP into time-locked escrow accounts and follows a monthly schedule for releasing tranches. The company has previously used released XRP for corporate funding, institutional sales and market operations, and it has returned unused tokens to escrow when not needed.
If Ripple releases the full 1 billion XRP and those tokens are not returned to escrow, the amount of XRP available to market participants would rise. ETF custody holdings are effectively removed from daily trading while held for investors, which concentrates a sizable portion of the token supply under long-term custody.
Exchange-traded fund disclosures and blockchain records are the primary sources for tracking ETF holdings and escrow activity. XRP is the native asset of the XRP Ledger. Ripple Labs retained a large portion of XRP and placed most of it into escrow to manage the rate at which tokens enter the market.
