Whale transfers 1,260 BTC as 75 Casascius coins are opened

A single on-chain transfer of 1,260 BTC was recorded this week, while collectors opened 75 vintage Casascius physical bitcoins, exposing private keys.

Blockchain records show a single on-chain transfer of 1,260 bitcoin this week that moved funds from one clustered set of addresses to another. The transaction can be traced through public explorer tools by its inputs and outputs and included a consolidated output matching the 1,260 BTC figure. On-chain analytics providers register transactions of this size when monitoring liquidity and custody flows.

No public statement has been issued by the transfer sender, and no centralized exchange or custodian has confirmed receipt of the funds. The blockchain ledger shows the transfer but does not disclose the owner’s identity or the reason for the transfer.

Separately, collectors reported opening 75 vintage Casascius physical bitcoins, removing the tamper-evident holograms that concealed the embedded private keys. Photographs and serial-number tracking shared within collector communities were cited by owners as confirmation of the openings.

Casascius coins were produced by Mike Caldwell between 2011 and 2013. Each coin contained a private key sealed under a holographic sticker intended to show tampering. When an owner removes or damages the hologram, the private key is exposed and the bitcoin associated with that key becomes spendable on the blockchain. The coin’s value then depends on the bitcoin balance controlled by that key rather than the coin’s sealed collectible condition.

The recently opened coins add to the list of Casascius pieces whose private keys are publicly known to their owners. If owners move the bitcoin tied to those keys, the resulting transactions will appear on-chain. Both the large consolidated BTC transfer and the cluster of opened physical coins produced new, traceable entries in public ledgers and collector registries.
